1. Floor Assembly — Min 4-1/2 in. (114 mm) thick steel reinforced lightweight or normal weight (100-150 pcf or 1600-2400 kg/m3) structural concrete. Floor may also be constructed of any min 6 in. (152 mm) thick UL Classified hollow-core Precast Concrete Units*.

See Precast Concrete Units (CFTV) category in the Fire Resistance Directory for names manufacturers.

The hourly fire rating of the floor assembly shall be equal or greater than the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly.

2. Wall Assembly — The 1 or 2 hr fire rated gypsum board/stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner described in the individual U400, V400 or W400 Series Wall and Partition Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features:

A. Steel Floor and Ceiling Runners — Floor runners of wall assembly shall consist of min No. 25 ga galv steel channels to be provided with min 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) legs and ceiling runners shall consist of min. 18ga galv steel channels provided with min 1 in. (25 mm) greater flange height than max extended joint width sized to accommodate steel studs (Item 2B). Both floor and ceiling runners secured with typical steel fasteners spaced a max. 24 in. (610 mm) O/C.

B. Light Gauge Framing* — (Optional) Clips applied inside at lower edge of ceiling runner vertical legs (Item 2A) and engage the return lip of the studs.

KPSI Innovations, Inc – Grip-n-Slip

C. Studs —S teel studs to be min 3-1/2 in. (88 mm) wide. Studs cut 1-1/2 to 4 in. (38 to 102 mm) less in length than assembly height with bottom nesting in and secured to floor runner with top nesting ceiling runner without attachment. Stud spacing not to exceed 16 in. (406 mm) OC.

D. Gypsum Board* — Gypsum board sheets installed to a min total 5/8 in. (16 mm) or 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) thickness on each side of wall for 1 or 2 fire rated assemblies, respectively. Wall constructed as specified in individual U400, V400, or W400 Series Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory except that a max 1-1/2 to 4 in. (38 to 102 mm) gap shall be maintained between the top of the gypsum board and the bottom of the floor assembly (Item 1). The screws attaching gypsum board to the studs along top of wall shall be located max 1 in. (25.4 mm) below the bottom of the ceiling runner legs when fully closed, a maximum of 7 in. (178 mm) from the top edge of the gypsum. No gypsum board attachment screws shall be driven into the ceiling runner.

E. Batts and Blankets* — Glass fiber or mineral wool batt insulation placed to fill stud cavities of wall. Glass fiber insulation to have a min density of 0.9 pcf (14 kg/m3) and a min R-19 thermal insulation rating. Mineral wool batt insulation to have a min density of 3 pcf (48 kg/m3). See Batts and Blankets (BKNV) Category in the Building Materials Directory and Batts and Blankets (BZJZ) Category in the Fire Resistance Directory for names of Classified Companies.

The hourly fire rating of the joint system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall.

3. Joint System — Max separation between bottom of floor and top of gypsum board (at time of installation) is 1-½ to 4 in. (38 to 102 mm). The joint system is designed to accommodate a max 100 percent compression or extension from its installed width for nom 1-1/2 in. (38 mm), and 2 in. (51 mm) joints. The joint system is designed to accommodate a max 100 percent compression and 0% extension from its installed with for nom 3 in. (76 mm) and 4 in. (102 mm) joints. The joint system shall consist of the following:

A. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* — For nom 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) compression/extension or 3 in. (76 mm) compression only joints, a min 3-3/4 in. (95 mm) wide composite thermal gasket applied to both sides of ceiling runner with upper edge of gasket in continuous firm contact with overhead substrate. Gypsum board to overlap a min of 1-3/4 in. (44 mm) or 1/4 in. (6 mm) over the gasket, respectively.

SAFTI SEAL  FRG-300

A1. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* — For nom 2 in. (51 mm) compression/extension or 4 in. (102 mm) compression only joints, a min 4-34 in. (121 mm) wide composite thermal gasket applied to both sides of ceiling runner with upper edge of gasket in continuous firm contact with overhead substrate. Gypsum board to overlap a min of 2-1/4 in. (57 mm) or 1/4 in. (6 mm) over the gasket, respectively.

SAFTI SEAL FRG-400

B. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* Sealant — (Optional, not shown) A bead of any UL classified sealant shall be used to seal small gaps in substrate above to maintain L Ratings.
